International Forum on Protection of Marine Biodiversity had held in Xiamen

On 7th, “International Forum on Protection of Marine Biodiversity” held by “Biodiversity Management Project in South China Sea” in Xiamen. This is the first international exchange and discussion in China. Experts thought this forum will make a positive function for promoting marine management based on ecosystem.
Mr. Zhu Wenquan, Member of NPC Standing Committee, attended the forum as a volunteer. Mr. Zhang Zhaihai, Director of International Cooperative Division, SOA, Dr. Wang Yexu, Representative of UNDP, China, Mr. Andrew Griffin, Representative of U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou, China, Mr. Liu Xiude, Director of Fujian Provincial Department of Oceans and Fisheries, Mr. Huang Shifu, Deputy Director of Xiamen Municipal Government Congress, made opening speeches.
The keynote report of the forum is “Promote marine ecosystem management, construct marine ecosystem security”. Around the theme and keynote report, the forum introduced the experiences of IUCN Marine Biodiversity Conservation, IOC-WESTPAC Marine Biodiversity Conservation and the South China Sea Biodiversity Management Project; they also made the sub-report on “The Theories and Practices in China Based on the Ecosystem Management”, “Assessment and Programme of Biodiversity Based on Ecosystem”, “Assessment and Application of Marine Ecosystem Service Value”, “The Response to the Climate Change of Marine Biodiversity”, “The Research of Coastal Carrying Capacity Based on the Ecosystem”, “The Construction of Marine Protected Areas Based on the Ecosystem”, and “The Practice of Marine Biodiversity Protection Based on the Ecosystem in Hainan Demonstration Area”.。
The representatives of UNDP, United States Consulate in Guangzhou, and PEMSEA, the officers from related divisions of SOA, China National Project Office and the coastal provinces and cities attended the meeting.
