Austere situation of protection on marine ecosystem, Strengthen protection with many measures

       On 8th, Mr. Wang Bin, Vice Director of Environmental Protection Division, SOA, figured out: with the rise of new coastal development boom, the situation of protection on marine ecosystem is still austere in China, and it is necessary to adopt many measures.。
      Wang Bin made hereinbefore statement in the “2009 International Workshop on Protection of Whales and Dolphins in China (Xiamen)” of 2009 WOW.
Wang Bin said, the grim situations of marine ecological environment are as follows: loss of marine and coastal habitats; serious coastal pollution; degradation of marine benthic environment; imbalance of marine nutrients structure; significant change of seawater salinity; imbalance of marine ecosystem; degradation of service functions; decrease of marine biodiversity and rare species; decline of seafood quality.
       Meantime, marine ecological disasters happened frequently, the marine environmental disasters as red tides, green tides and coastal erosion is serious. Invasive alien species and climate change have affected the marine and coastal ecological environment.
Wang Bin said restrictive development and ecological protection should be implemented in the sensitive and fragile marine eco-regions; ecological construction and integrated repair should be implemented in the zones that have been damaged.
       The policies of integrated management and coordinative development should be implemented in all sea areas, and promote the marine management based on ecosystem. Regional marine eco-security should be constructed and marine ecological functions should be ensured to play.
