[Organizing Review]
                                                                           Vice Mayor Pan Shijian convened 
                                                                  “The Second Organizing Meeting of 2009 WOW”

      On June 15, Vice Mayor Pan Shijian convened the second organizing conference of 2009WOW. The Meeting was chaired by Mr. Cai Shouguo, Secretary of General Office of Xiamen Municipal Government. In the meeting, WOW Secretariat reported on the organizing progression of each forum while Xiamen Road & Bridge Group and Xiamen Oceans and Fisheries Bureau respectively reported on the organizing progression of yacht show and of fisheries expo. Meanwhile, representatives from disctricts reported on the activities they are respectively organizing.

      On June 16, Secretary Cai Shouguo lead WOW Secretariat staff to visit UNDP China, SOA and China Ocean New Agency, with the aim of facilitating the organizing of WOW.

[Invitation]
     1. Prof. Raphael P.M. Lotilla, Executive Director with PEMSEA, has confirmed to attend 2009WOW and will make presentations in the Opening Ceremony and Session “Policy Report” of the main forum.
     2. Ms. Kate Brown, current GLISPA coordinator, has accepted the invitation to attend 2009WOW and agree to make a presentation in Session Ⅰ “Policy Report” of the Main Forum.
     3. Felipe Hilan A. Nava, the Governor of Guimaras Province of Philippines, has accepted the invitation to attend 2009WOW and agree to make a presentation in Session Ⅱ “Exchanges of Experience” of the Main Forum.
     4. Prof. Yonathan Zohar, Director of Center of Marine Biotechnology in University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, has accepted the invitation to attend 2009WOW and agree to make a presentation in Session Ⅲ “Expert Forum” of the Main Forum.
     5. Dr. Osamu Matsuda, the Professor Emeritus of Hiroshima University, Japan, has accepted the invitation to attend 2009WOW and agree to make a presentation in Session Ⅲ “Expert Forum” of the Main Forum.
     6. Dr. Robert C Beckman, Professor at the Faculty of Law of the National University of Singapore (NUS), has accepted the invitation to attend 2009WOW and agree to make a presentation in Session Ⅲ “Expert Forum” of the Main Forum.
     7. Sanya Municipal Government has confirmed to send a delegation, which is headed by Mr. Zhang Huazhong, Director-General of its Oceans and Fisheries Bureau, to attend the Main Forum, China National Joint Meeting on Island Management, International Forum on Protection of Marine Biodiversity, Seminar on the Oceans and Coastal Zones Management in Developing Countries.
     8. Tianjin Municipal Government has confirmed to send a delegation from its Oceans and Fisheries Bureau to attend the Main Forum and some other relevant activities.

[Organizing Progression]
                                                               Secretary Cai Shouguo lead a delegation to visit SOA
      On June 16, Secretary Cai Shouguo lead a delegation to visit UNDP China, SOA and China Ocean New Agency, with the aim of facilitating the organizing of WOW. They held discussions on the organizing of such activities as National Joint Meeting on Island Management, Chinese Undergraduate Marine Knowledge Competition TV Finals, and International Forum on Marine Biodiversity Protection. Besides, the discussions concluded that the Second Plenary Meeting of WOW Organizing Committee will be held in late August or early September, Xiamen.

                                                           Bulletin: The 19th World Water Week Will Convene in Stockholm
      Hosted and organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), the annual World Water Week in Stockholm (WWW) will once again convene on August 16-22, 2009. To respond to the global changes brought about by international economic challenges, the overall theme of this year’s WWW is “Accessing Water for the Common Good”, calling for the nations or regions to stop competing over their shared water resources and move beyond simplistic concerns about volume, to find ways of optimising those resources for common opportunities. The seminars, workshops, side events during World Water Week will explore how that knowledge can bring about a transformational change in thinking about water. Throughout the week, leaders and representatives in government, business, science and civic society will exchange ideas, debate issues and evaluate progress on their problems and successful experience in water and sanitation. Besides, s full schedule of social events and field visits will also be organised to provide an abundance of opportunities for the participants to build a cooperation networking.
       Moreover, the week will also celebrate great achivements. Some prize ceremonies will be held to honour those who have done remarkable work in water, sanitation and public health, including Stockholm Water Prize, Stockholm Junior Water Prize, Stockholm Industry Water Award etc. For more information, please log on the offical website of World Water Week at

        It should be noted that World Ocean Week in Xiamen has already built a sister week relationship with World Water Week in Stockholm.
