Dear Sir or Madam:
We sincerely invite you to attend World Ocean Week in Xiamen [2009] (2009WOW) that will be held on November 6-12, 2009 in Xiamen, the beautiful coastal city in Southeast China.
Last year, 2008WOW had been successfully held on November 7 through 13, in which officials, experts and delegates from 45 countries and regions, over 10 international organizations, relevant ministries and commissions of China as well as domestic and foreign coastal cities had shown active participation. During the week, eleven marine-themed forums, two marine-themed exhibitions, and over ten marine cultural activities with extensive participation by the public had been staged. With fruitful results generated, it has won approvals from relevant international organizations and participants, and has received close attention from the press and media.
2009WOW will still be jointly sponsored by China State Oceanic Administration (SOA), United Nations Development Programme China (UNDP China), Xiamen Municipal Government, and Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA). With the theme of “Promoting Marine Ecological Civilization—Protection and Sustainable Utilization of Islands”, the activities of 2009WOW will consist of three parts, namely, International Marine Forums, Marine-themed Exhibitions, and Marine Cultural Activities.
In the Main Forum of 2009WOW, discussions and communications will be conducted centering on topics such as: (1) “Legislation for Island Management and the Building of Supporting Systems”, (2)“Planning for Island Protection and Utilization”, (3)“Ecological Conservation, Remediation and Restoration of Islands”, (4) “Experience and Related Cases of Island Management”, and (5) “Island Protection and Sustainable Utilization Model”.
